Hey guys,
Today my dad brought up an important note regarding SOPA, the bill that's essentially protesting internet freedom and American 1st amendment rights. He said if you boycott the companies that support SOPA and they realize they will lose, rather than gain, money, than SOPA, PIPA, and any other iteration of the bill will quickly fall. Those companies are simply supporting the bill because they think they will get money from cutting out what they consider online piracy. It's important to show them that Americans are wiling to interrupt their daily lives, change their schedules, and accept inconveniences for the sake of freedom.
Here is a list of major companies support SOPA that I found online:
theoriesofconspiracy.com/2011/…I haven't confirmed if this list is accurate, but judging by what's on it, I'm going to say it is.
If you could look through the list and decide what you could live without for a while, I know it'll make a world of difference to the fight. Simply choosing Target over Wal-Mart or choosing not to go to the movies will turn these companies worlds upside down. If everyone stopped going to the movies and supporting the Motion Picture Association (one of the biggest supporters of SOPA), I assure you the bill would drop very quickly!
Please consider emailing or calling these companies and please consider boycotting if you can. Thanks very much for reading!
EDIT: Saw this on Tumblr - it's just what I was thinking and it totally needs to be done!! Read on if interested in taking down Big Money!!
BLACK MARCH
Thursday, March 1st 2012 to Saturday 31st March 2012
With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies' lobbyists.
The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts.
Their profit margins.
March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide.
Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.
Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies' profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.
This action can give a statement of intent:
"We will not tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying for legistation which will censor the internet."
